Pakistan has yet again used the image of Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthamanan to mock India.
The image, this time was shown during a Pakistan Super League game between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United. During the game an image of the Indian Air Force holding a cup of tea was displayed on the giant screen.
It is clear that the picture is from 2019 when Varthamanan’s jet crashed inside Pakistan territory and he was taken into custody by the Pakistan Army. At that time, a video of him had surfaced sipping tea offered by the Pakistan Army. Following intense pressure from the Indian side, Pakistan released Abhinandan. At that time, Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Ayaz Sadiq had said in a statement that Abhinandan was released out of fear that India may attack Pakistan.

This is however not the first time that the same incident has been used to mock India. Even the PSL had used ‘tea is fantasia,’ once before to mock India. At that time, Lahore Qalandars had tweeted a photograph of Mohammad Hussai sipping tea with the caption, ‘ye tu, tea is fantastic ho gaya.’

In 2022, a Pakistani journalist had questioned cricketer Ben Stokes, “how is the tea.” This was yet another clear attempt to mock the Indian Air Force hero, who was asked the same question by the Pakistan Army while in custody.
During his custody in Pakistan, a video was released by the Pakistani authorities thanking the officials. In the video he was asked if he liked the tea and he replied by saying, ‘it is fantastic.’
Since then Pakistanis have used this phrase to create memes.
On February 26 2019, a Pakistani had shared a picture of night sky and said, ‘sleep tight, because the Pakistani Air Force is awake.’ Just a few hours later, a dozen Indian Air Force jet flew into Pakistan territory and bombarded the Jaish-e-Mohammad’s Ballot terror facility.
