Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud lost his temper in court and ordered a lawyer to leave during heated words over the listing of a petition.
Justice Chandrachud is said to have shouted on top of his voice at senior advocate, Vikas Singh, who urged the court to push a case related to land for Supreme Court lawyers.
“Keep quiet. Leave this court right now. You cannot cower us down,” Justice Chandrachud said.

Singh, is the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
He was pushing for a hearing on a petition by a lawyer’s body seeking that land allotted to the Supreme Court be used for chamber blocks for lawyers. He told the court that the lawyers had been pushing for listing of this case for the past six months.

Justice Chandrachud remarked, “you cannot demand land like this. You tell us the day we are setting idle the whole day.”
To this Singh said, “I am not saying you are sitting idle for the whole day. I am only trying to get the matter listed. If it is not done, I will have to escalate and take it to your Lordship’s residence. I do not want the Bar to be taken like this.”
You will be treated as an ordinary litigant. Please do not force my hand to do something you do not want, the Chief Justice remarked.
Singh said that he feels very strongly about this subject as lawyers had been waiting for chambers for 20 years. Just because the Bar does not do anything, it does not mean it should be taken for granted.

“Please do not raise your voice. This is not the behave as the President of the Bar of the Supreme Court. You are asking for land allotted to the Supreme Court to be given to the Bar. I have made by decision. It will taken on 17th and it will not be first on board,” CJI Chandrachud said.
Reports said that later on senior lawyers Kapil Sibal and N K Kaul apologised to the Chief Justice on behalf of the Bar.
